After a massive investment of time, our 2012 availability calendar ‘Shuswap Growing and Shuswap Eating’ will be posted, March 15, 2012. The poster highlights all of our crops, the months they are anticipated to be available and how we might be able to bring them to market sooner or store them for longer. The poster will be on sale at our market stall along with a seasonal eating recipe book focusing on Shuswap growers and producers, profits from the calendar and recipe book will be used to help build a commercial kitchen/ processing facility for existing and future local processors.
Season extension is quickly becoming our passion, with investment in increasing our root cellar storage capabilities, using several methods of row and crop covers to grow earlier in the spring and later into the fall as well as using beds in our greenhouse. In the future we hope to incorporate geothermal heating as well as solar and wind powered lighting to increase the productivity of our greenhouses. Updates to the availability list will be incorporated on an annual basis.
